First snowfall – video

Standard

Surprise snowfall this morning in Connecticut, New England, USA. Snow before Halloween is unusual in the southern half of the state. After about two hours it turned to sleet and then rain leaving only small, sheltered reminders of the winter to come.

Note: Video and still photography captured using Canon Rebel T3i. YouTube video put together using YouTube Video Editor which was a complete nightmare. Never again.

Can’t see the forest for the trees? That’s changing.

Standard

I am beginning to see the forest. Tree skeletons are beautiful, too. Contrasted against the birch leaves, the bare tree trunks are lovely.

My classroom this semester

Standard

classroom 2

This is my final semester before transferring to a 4-year school. Previously, I have taken at least one on-campus class to anchor me to the college community and develop relationships with professors, fellow students, staff and administration. I have met some amazing people at MxCC in Middletown.

This semester, however, I am taking online classes only. The photo above is my classroom this fall, and it has a lovely view.

I just moved my desk so that I can enjoy the blue sky, autumn leaves, birds singing when the windows are open, and lots of light. I got sick of facing a wall.

Okay, back to work. Hope everyone is having a beautiful fall!

Autumn hues

Standard

Looking out my front door this morning, I am greeted by gorgeous autumn hues and still warm temperatures. What’s not to love about fall in Connecticut in 2015? Nothing so far.

More Leaf Peeping in Connecticut

Most of these photos were taken at Machimoodus State Park in East Haddam, CT between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. There is something hidden in one of the photos. Can you find it? Leave a comment when you do.

Leaf Peeping in Connecticut

Machimoodus State Park in beautiful East Haddam, Connecticut provides nature lovers with seasonal opportunities to enjoy native plants and wildlife while hiking, fishing, picnicking, horseback riding, and birding. Stunning views reward the hiker who makes it to the vistas overlooking the Salmon and Connecticut Rivers.

This slide show was created as a New Media Productions project.

Connecticut River – September 17, 2015

Standard

The Connecticut River at Route 82 from Haddam across the Swing Bridge to East Haddam is a beautiful sight. I have photographed it previously, but never with mist rising from the water and an early morning sun.

Journeys in Connecticut

Standard

roadjourneyI am starting a new project this weekend, and I plan to share it with all of you.

I am going to drive around Connecticut (and maybe venture out of the state — doesn’t take much to do that) while recording my adventures in video and still photography.

I needed some equipment, but I’m set to begin today.

Some of my journeys may be very short, to the market and back. Others might be true adventures, heading out and getting lost on back roads.

In all of my years here, I have failed to capture the beauty of fall in New England. This is the perfect time to begin.  You can be leaf peepers from afar.

I will post my first video by next Saturday.
